Your ‘travel more’ New Year’s resolutions won’t plan themselves. Good thing today is National Plan for a Vacation Day. Yes, the Hamptons in winter is a thing—just not the thing you were thinking. Hampshire County Massachusetts, made up of Northampton, Easthampton, Southampton, and Westhampton, is the winter wonderland (and hideaway) you need. A short two-hour drive from Boston will satisfy even the most extreme of travel junkies. Load up the Lincoln from Boston and head for this hills. You can ski at Mount Tom, pop across the Connecticut River for a hike through the Seven Sisters (in the Holyoke range), and then go Where the Wild Things Are at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.

2. Muir Woods day trip from San Francisco

So you’re visiting San Francisco or you’re a long-term transplant from the Midwest like most, either way, you’ve been itching to get away for the weekend. You really don’t have to look too far since this area has so much to offer. You can pick up Greta the Jetta and head east to the Tahoe, South to Yosemite, or West to well… you’ll need an amphibious car for that. Feel the rhythm, feel the ride on a road trip to go bobsledding in Muskegon, Michigan. I don’t know about you, but I just added ice luge racing to my bucket list. If you’re in the Chicago area you can enjoy the three-hour scenic ride around Lake Michigan through a panoramic roof and check this off of your list.

4. Dip in and out of hot springs near Washington D.C.
